The UH-Hilo women’s volleyball team finished the 2022-23 school year with a combined 3.41 grade point average, surpassing the 3.30 threshold to earn a USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.

The United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Thursday that 1,333 collegiate and high school volleyball teams earned such distinctions, setting a new all-time record since the award was initiated 30 years ago in 1992-93.

The women’s volleyball team posted a 3.26 GPA in the fall before following up strong with a 3.56 in the spring.

Last month, 11 women’s volleyball student-athletes were named to the Academic All-PacWest Team for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
